Frequently asked questions
Is this civil service redundancy calculator accurate?
The statutory redundancy figure is always accurate and up to date. The Civil Service Compensation Scheme tariff figure is currently in a verification period while our solicitor verifies it against the primary CSCS rules document, so that part of the calculator is not shown yet. Come back soon, or contact us for a manual estimate in the meantime.
What is the difference between voluntary exit, voluntary redundancy and compulsory redundancy?
They are three distinct routes under the Civil Service Compensation Scheme, each with its own tariff and cap. Voluntary exit and voluntary redundancy are both employee-initiated (you apply, or you volunteer once your role is at risk) and share the more generous tariff. Compulsory redundancy, where your department selects you without your agreement, is calculated on a lower tariff.
This calculator gives an indicative estimate only and is not legal or tax advice. Your actual entitlement depends on the facts of your case and the current CSCS terms applied by your department.
